The Pheasant Hut

This gorgeous, self-contained shepherd’s hut sleeps 2 comfortably.

The “Pheasant Hut” sits in it’s own private grass paddock with gorgeous views and access up the river Irthing, a tributary of the Eden. If you sit quietly you may have the opportunity to see Herons, a variety of Ducks, or even a quick glance at a passing Kingfisher.

The Pheasant Hut is set in the idyllic Cumbrian countryside. It was built from scratch by husband and wife hosts, Michael and Fiona. Situated on the banks of the River Irthing, and a short walk from Lanercost, this is the perfect stop for walkers exploring Hadrian’s Wall Country. Artists, anglers, golfers and honeymooners will also enjoy the peaceful tranquillity. The intentional lack of Wi-Fi allowing anyone staying here an opportunity to really switch off!

Location

This fully equipped cosy retreat in the Cumbrian countryside, is set in its own private paddock over-looking the river.

You have the hut, an outside seating area with BBQ, plus the paddock lawn, all to yourselves.

The hut sleeps 2, but if you want to put up a tent for a few additional people, then that can be arranged for a small extra fee.

If you feel hardy enough you can go wild swimming in a pool a two minutes walk from the hut.

The Space

Hosted by Fiona and Michael Hunter (and their two friendly Labradors ) the Shepherd’s Hut features a Double bed from which you can watch programs on Freesat in comfort. The Hut has a fully fitted Shower and W.C in a separate compartment with hot water supplied by a propane boiler and is connected to both mains electricity, water and to our domestic sceptic tank.

This is camping in great comfort !

There is a small galley area with a combination electric hob, oven and grill and an under-counter fridge, together with a sink and hot and cold water.

A small wood burning stove in one corner caters for those slightly cooler evenings.

We can supply ready made meals for both dinner and breakfast to the hut, for you to heat or cook as required. Please ask for the choices of what we can provide. There is a BBQ available and a Brazier that you can light and sit around on those balmy evenings, enjoying perhaps a cool beer or glass of wine and relaxing those weary legs.

An Ordinance Survey map shows walks and places of interest for the energetic or games and books for the quiet times. There is also a TV for quiet nights in front of the logburner
Nestled right beside the River Irthing - great for nature watching and energetic dogs! You can go fishing here ( permits available by the day or week from the local Post Office) You can even go "Wild swimming " like me -- very refreshing!

Guest Access

Private use of the hut, patio and paddock, plus access to the River for which fishing permits can also be arranged. There is plenty of space to park either next to the Hut or alongside the gate on hard standing.

During your stay

We live on the small farm and will be around (most of the time) should you need help but are far enough away that we will not invade your privacy!

Other things to note

We have a 2 black Labradors who are very friendly and may visit you, but they are well behaved! No cats please!
You can arrange a visitor’s fishing permit from  Brampton Anglers if you wish to bring your rod and fish.
